It’s my birth month, yay! You know, birthdays have a way of getting us in our feelings and that’s how I’ve been feeling. Lately, I’ve been thinking about how far I’ve come generally in life, especially with my business. I’ve been thinking about how I built this beautiful thing that’s become a huge part of my life.
Today, I thought to do some travelling down memory lane and I’m inviting you to travel with me. I promise to make it worth your while. I’m going to be sharing with you how I built this Jojoshomemade brand. Where’s your glass of juice and granola cookies? Set them by your side and enjoy my granola love story, lol.
How I Built This Jojoshomemade Brand: In The Beginning

The story begins with something almost every mum can relate to. After I had my second child in 2016, I needed to lose some weight before resuming work. I decided to diet, I knew it would work for me because I can close my mouth to food when i need to, lol.
Anyhow, I began to research meal plans and specific foods that were healthy enough to help a new mum lose weight. I would check out healthier alternatives to replace my regular diet and snacks; that’s when I found that oats were great for what I wanted but cooked oats were a big no. So that option was cancelled.
Hours of research later, I found out about granola. After reading up on the many benefits, I knew that I had solved the oats problem. In September of 2016, I made my first ever batch of granola and shared the photo on social media. Everyone was so kind with their positive comments, so I thought, “wow, I should do this again.” And I did!
How I Built This: Becoming A Business

By the end of my maternity leave, I was a badass granola maker. I got orders from my colleagues at work, my friends too. Then I started making small batches of granola. I took orders by Friday, made the granola over the weekend, and then delivered on Monday. Business became a weekly affair, and I had to double my hustle so that I could meet up with the demand.
Small small, that’s how my romance with granola went from me solving my weight loss issues to doing the same for others and then to becoming a business. Back then, I packaged my granola in wine bottles. Lol.
I formed Jojoshomemade from my first name and my surname and proceeded to make my business legit with registration and everything. That’s basically how the journey began. And I’m telling this story because it’s important to share our stories. You just never know who can relate or who your life will touch. So this is me, sharing my story with you. This is the part where I insert that African proverb about the lion telling his stories so that the elephant will not use lies to kill the story.
But how did I build this without prior entrepreneurial experience?

Ah! Who says I didn’t have experience?
In Uni, I sold eggs and Funtime Coconut Chips, and I loved the experience. Sure, I loved making money for myself but the experience was equally rewarding.
After Uni, I took it a notch higher and sold children’s clothes and diapers. I’m telling you that this selling thing, no be today. But I can tell you this: there was something about the granola business that made it the most rewarding and fulfilling hustle ever.
I just loved that I had the opportunity to provide alternatives in meals and snacks for people who want a healthier, diet. And I still fell the same way, and I hope the feeling never dies. I guess that’s why for me, the story of Jojoshomemade will always be a granola love story. There’s definitely love in the mix.
I also feel very blessed that this journey has had a lot of destiny helpers on the way. I feel blessed that God continually proved to be involved in the matter.
But every love story has challenges o, have you seen Disney? There were challenges here as well and I will share some of them with you in the next part of the series.
Meantime, feel free to guess which challenges I’ll share next week. Also, if you’re feeling adventurous this weekend, try this recipe, this too. Shop our healthy, tasty granola here as well. You should never run out of healthy food and snacks.
Leave us a comment, will you? I love to read from you. I’m looking forward to next week already.
Love,
Jojo.
